Adobe Photoshop Turns 25, Releases Video Showcasing Its Achievements

Image editing tool Adobe Photoshop celebrates its 25th anniversary with a short video showcasing artwork shared by various artists that have used the software.

First released in Feb. 19, 1990, Adobe Photoshop has gone through a lot of upgrades and iterations to achieve the popularity it now enjoys. The software's newest version is Photoshop CC 2014 (version 15.0) released on June 18. 2014.

"For 25 years, Photoshop has inspired artists and designers to craft images of stunning beauty and reality-bending creativity", said Adobe president and CEO Shantanu Narayen.

The CEO added that Photoshop has evolved from desktop publishing and now has moved to other discipline like fashion, movie production, photography, mobile app creation, website design. Photoshop recently entered the 3D printing market.

Narayen also highlighted the recent release of Adobe's Creative Cloud, the company's cloud service that offers a subscription scheme for users that want to use Adobe tools.

To add more flare to the anniversary spectacle, Adobe released a TV spot featuring the Aerosmith song "Dream On," according to Cnet.

The company plans to release it at the upcoming Academy Awards on Sunday. Boasting a Hollywood theme, the ad includes stills from movies like " Avatar," "Gone Girl," and " How To Train Your Dragon 2" showing specific parts of the film where Photoshop was used during production.

Additionally, will its works to the online portfolio Behance using the tag "Ps25Under25." The top 25 artists after the competition will take over Adobe Photoshop's Instagram account.

Each artist will then be given a two week period to showcase his artwork for the whole world to see, according to Mac Rumors.

The showcase will start with artist Fredy Santiago, a 24-year old Mexican-American based in California.
