Microsoft is close to launching the Xbox One S probably as a tiny teaser for what their Project Scorpio can offer in 2017 as there are some noticeable improvements over the normal Xbox One.
Besides the smaller form factor, the Xbox One S is now being claimed to have more framerates in some games compared to its predecessor. It is not a huge upgrade by any means but it does make playing console games that have framerate dips more bearable than ever.
As usual, Eurogamer researchers have tried to see if the Xbox One S does offer significant improvements considering that it would be a small upgraded version of its bigger brother. The best scenario was that the Xbox One S offered nine more frames between the upgraded console and the other older ones, VG247 has learned.
It should be noted that the Xbox One S does not really improve all of the existing games. However, there are some titles that have seen several more frames and frame spikes to the higher end of the spectrum.
For instance, the highest improvement seen was in the Project Cars title during third-person camera views as it registered an 11 percent improvement of up to nine frames per second. The smallest percentage observed was with Resident Evil 5 Remastered with only 2.5 percent improvement.
One interesting bit was that the Xbox One S provided a more pleasant gameplay with the framerate dips in the Fallout 4 Far Harbor DLC, Polygon reported. It is no secret that the Fallout 4 DLC did not really perform well in its console versions compared to the PC.
Another added benefit for the Xbox One S is that the external power supply that was sticking out in the predecessor console is now also fitted inside the box. The new upgraded Xbox One now also features an IR blaster that can provide universal remote functionality for its users which is not present in the original console.
Microsoft's Project Scorpio is still not here and users will have to make do with the Xbox One S which does provide small improvements over the previous console. The several frames difference could be worth it for some who have extra cash to burn.
