Has the end of Olicity finally come? Sources reveal that a new love interest has been set up for Felicity Smoak in "Arrow" Season 5, leaving many fans to question what would become of his relationship with Oliver Queen.
Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) and Oliver (Stephen Amell) started out as friends and later developed a romantic feelings for each other while maintaining a professional relationship, as they teamed up to quell crime in Star City. But things went spiraling down when Felicity decided to end their relationship, saying she couldn't marry Oliver when he doesn't trust her enough to share everything with her. She's still pretty much a member of Team Arrow, of course, but things will never be the same for her and Oliver.
In an interview with TV Line at the recently-concluded San Diego Comic Con, Rickards confirmed that Felicity is getting a new squeeze in "Arrow" Season 5.
"She steps on it pretty hot off the bat. You'll meet him quite quickly," Rickards shared about her new lover. But how will Oliver react to all of this? In the same interview, Amell assured fans that his character won't act like the jealous ex-boyfriend, although he did joke that while viewers will meet Felicity's new beau in the first episode, he will die in the fourth.
The Olicity subplot, however, didn't set well with a lot of fans who preferred seeing the two characters as solid teammates instead of lovers. It appears that "Arrow" creators have heeded the fans request, with respect to how Team Arrow will reground in the coming season.
"Oliver's most important relationship in the entire show is his relationship with Star City, and his objective to make it better than what it was and fulfill what his father asked him to do," Comicbook quoted Amell as saying. "Oliver and Felicity are very much team members at this point. She thinks that there should be a new team at the moment, and Oliver would like the old team to return."
As to what "Arrow" Season 5 will be like, Amell teased that this season "feels very ground and very patient to me." He also hinted that the pacing will be slower until it builds up enough moment for everything to go "crazy in the second half of the year."
"Arrow" Season 5 will air on Oct. 5.
