WWE Rumors: Status of Rusev and Lana backstage revealed

Rusev and Lana attend the 2016 CMT Music awards at the Bridgestone Arena on June 8, 2016 in Nashville, Tennessee.

United States champion Rusev and his lovely wife Lana are doing great at the moment compared to last year. According to the latest rumors, the backstage heat on the couple is gone and they are on the good side of WWE's top officials.

Rusev started his career as an unstoppable heel in the main roster in January 2014 wherein he had an undefeated winning streak lasting until WrestleMania 31. He was defeated by John Cena before eventually getting involved in one of the worst storylines in recent memory.

The Bulgarian Brute and Lana got into a love triangle storyline with Dolph Ziggler in mid-2015. Summer Rae eventually got involved before turning into a cringe-worthy program. The blame was put on Rusev and Lana after their real-life engagement was made public, per TMZ Sports.

Several reports stated that the couple received an enormous amount of heat for breaking kayfabe. Even though he was part of the League of Nations earlier this year, the stable miserably failed because they were formed to just put Roman Reigns over.

Nevertheless, Rusev won the United States championship for a second time at Extreme Rules by defeating Kalisto. He then went on to successfully defend the title against Titus O'Neil and Zack Ryder before getting into his current program with Reigns.

According to Daily Wrestling News, WWE Chairman Vince McMahon is very happy with the newlyweds. He is reportedly praising Rusev for his recent work as a heel while Lana continues to train as a wrestler. She is also one of the stars of reality TV show, "Total Divas."

Rusev will be defending the U.S. championship at SummerSlam against Reigns. Many fans expect The Guy to end up winning but the recent outcome of their non-title match in this week's Monday Night Raw indicates something else.

Reigns defeated Rusev on Raw cleanly and based on wrestling fans' theory of "Win on TV, Lose on PPV" might come into play. The three-time WWE champion recently got demoted to the midcard following his suspension for violating the company's Wellness Policy.

The result of Rusev vs. Reigns at SummerSlam is still up in the air. The WWE could continue punishing Reigns by having him lose to Rusev before eventually getting pushed again later this year. Whatever the outcome of this match will be, big things are coming for both Rusev and Lana.
