'One Piece Film: Gold' gets PH release date

'One Piece Film: Gold' is a 2016 Japanese animated film directed by Hiroaki Miyamoto and produced by Toei Animation.

The Straw Hat Pirates is coming to the big screen. The 13th installment in Toei Animation's "One Piece" film series, dubbed "One Piece Film: Gold" is finally set to be shown in Philippine theaters on Aug. 31.

On Aug. 17, Philippine cinema chain SM Cinema announced on their Facebook account that "One Piece Film: Gold" will open in the country on Aug. 31, with a special advance screening on Aug. 26. Toei Animation's "One Piece Film: Gold" will be distributed in the Philippines by Odex.

The anime movie is directed by Hiroaki Miyamoto. Based on the manga of the same name written and illustrated by Eiichiro Oda, "One Piece Film: Gold" follows the Straw Hat Pirates taking on one of the wealthiest men in the world, Gild Tesoro.

Gild Tesoro is said to be the in charge of the largest entertainment city in the world called Gran Tesoro. His influence has given him the title "Monster of the Now World." Although his full powers remain to be seen, it is speculated that his power is equivalent to the World Nobles, also known as the Celestial Dragons.

"One Piece Film: Gold" had its world premiere at the Emirates Palace hotel in Abu Dhabi on July 15 and later premiered in Japan on July 23. As of Aug. 16, the film has grossed $35.6 million, Kotaku has learned.

The upcoming anime movie stars Japanese voice actors Mayumi Tanaka as Straw Hat Luffy, Kazuya Nakai as Zoro, Akemi Okamura as Nami, Kappei Yamaguchi as Usopp, Hiroaki Hirata as Sanji, Ikue Otani as Chopper, Yuriko Yamaguchi as Nico Robin, Kazuki Yao as Franky and Yuichi Nagashima as Brook, Anime News Network reported. The film's guest cast includes Kazuhiro Yamaji, Hikari Mitsushima, Gaku Hamada, Nanao, Kinya Kitaoji, and Kendo Kobayashi.
