Pangu was spent spiraling once more when Apple released iOS 9.3.5 recently. With the roll out, all previous iOS jailbreaks were rendered useless though its intent was more on a security breach traced to an Isreali arms dealer.
According to the New York Times, iOS 9.3.5 was something pegged to cover up the security flaws used by an Israeli group called NSO. The group was apparently taking advantage of the security breach to spy on journalists.
But the harm that could be done goes beyond that. Like most malware intrusion, the vulnerability allowed groups to easily spy on text messages, contacts and even collect passwords. It was only when researchers Bill Marczak and John Scott-Railton that Apple was made aware of the exploit.
With that covered, it will now be up to Pangu to either work on an iOS 9.3.5 or iOS 10 jailbreak. But with word that Apple is expected to release iOS 10 alongside the iPhone 7, the hacker group could be better off focusing on an iOS 10 jailbreak.
Aside from the time constraint, the fact that they showed off a working iOS 10 jailbreak at MOSEC 2016 indicates that there is less work to be done. Though that rendered crack made use of an early build of iOS 10, working on it over a fresh iOS 9.3.5 is seen as more practical.
The only difference expected would be the revisions that Apple may have applied on the succeeding iOS 10 beta versions plus some of the security patches applied with the unexpected release of iOS 9.3.5, Forbes reported.
Pangu will be down to its last card with an iOS 10 jailbreak, something many are expecting to be out not long after Apple officially unveils it. If that shown crack at MOSEC 2016 is indeed credible, the hacker group should be able to release an iOS 10 jailbreak not long after Apple rolls out its next mobile operating system.
All of that should fall into place in the coming weeks with Pangu likely waiting for Apple’s first move. From there, it may be Pangu’s last card before planning ahead for future mobile operating systems.
