'G.I. Joe 3' update: 'The Magnificent Seven' star Lee Byung-Hun to reprise Storm Shadow

More than three years after he played Storm Shadow in the "G.I . Joe" franchise, Korean actor Lee Byung-Hun revealed his plans to reprise the ninja role in the sequel. In a sit-down interview, the 46-year-old star discussed the status of "G.I. Joe 3."

The "Red 2" actor was one of the many celebrities who graced the red carpet at the 41st Toronto International Film Festival. The annual event is being held in Toronto, Canada from Sept. 8 to Sept. 18.

"I heard from the studio that there's a possibility to do the third one, but I think they're waiting for the actors' schedules," Lee told LRM. "They're arranging the schedules for the actors, especially Dwayne Johnson."

Lee then revealed that he and Scottish actor Ray Park, who plays Storm Shadow's adversary Snake Eyes, actually do communicate quite often. He said that he and the "Mortal Kombat X: Generations" actor casually talked about more things they might want to do together and some other projects.

Though nothing has been decided yet, Lee's agency stated to Soompi that the actor will most likely reprise his role if the studio produces the third installment of the "G.I . Joe" franchise. The entertainment label explained, "When he first signed the contract with the studio, he agreed to appear in all three films."

Lee's acting career began in 1991 with the television drama "Asphalty My Hometown." In the Hollywood, Lee is known for portraying Storm Shadow in 2009's "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra" and 2013's "G.I. Joe: Retaliation." He starred next in "Red 2" alongside Bruce Willis and 2015's "Terminator Genisys."

Currently, Lee portrays an assassin, Billy Ricks, who shows expertise with knives and close combat in "The Magnificent Seven." The film, which is directed by Antoine Fuqua, also stars Denzel Washington, Chris Pratt, Ethan Hawke, Vincent D'Onofrio, Haley Bennet, Peter Sarsgaard, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo and Martin Sensmeier.
