'The Winds of Winter' is the sixth novel in George R. R. Martin's epic fantasy series 'A Song of Ice and Fire.

It seems highly unlikely that the much-anticipated book "Winds of Winter" release will happen in 2016. It is expected to release in the first quarter of 2017.

Earlier this month, there were reports that the book will release on March 9, 2017 when Amazon posted on its French website that the book is currently unavailable but the retailer will start selling it from March 9, 2017. Later, Amazon retracted the page thus leading to speculations that the book will not release on the mentioned date.

"Winds of Winter" release is not happening in 2016, according to iDigital Times. If the book was to be released before the end of the year, then it would have had been finished by now and would be in the editing and the publishing stages. As it is not been edited as yet, so it implies that the book is still to be finished.

There were also rumors that "Winds of Winter" and "A Dream of Spring" will release together. Author George R. R. Martin was rumored to be writing both the books simultaneously and that was the reason why "Winds of Winter" was delayed.

The first book of the "A Song of Ice and Fire" series was titled as "A Game of Thrones," which is also the name of the television adaptation of the series. It was released in 1996 and was followed after two years by "A Clash of Kings."

The third book of the series was titled as "A Storm of Swords" and it was released in 2000. The delays in releasing the books started with the fourth book "A Feast for Crows" onwards. Its release was delayed and it was eventually published in 2005.

The next book "A Dance with Dragons" also followed the same pattern and was released in 2011. Since 2011, the readers have been anxiously waiting for "Winds of Winter."

Meanwhile, "Winds of Winter" spoilers indicate that the Mother of Dragons will play a very pivotal role in the upcoming book. She will engage her dragons in a fiery fight in Westeros and eventually burn it to the ground.

Tyrion Lannister will also come into his own element in the much-delayed book "Winds of Winter." Lannister is a brilliant strategist and he will use this quality to advice Mother of Dragons on numerous policies.
