‘Limitless’ Season 2 renewal still possible?; Craig Sweeny has plans for Season 2 plot

CBS president Glenn Geller said that the network was discussing with potential buyers in the hopes of saving the show, but through a different platform.

Is it really the end of CBS series "Limitless"? Fans of the show were shocked when it was confirmed that the Jake McDorman starrer was not renewed for a second season. But is there a chance the show might see the light of day again?

News about CBS axing "Limitless" was announced by executive producer Craig Sweeny through Twitter. He stated, "I'm truly said to report that ['Limitless'] will not continue on any platform. Thanks so much to everyone who watched."

However, it was also reported that "Limitless" Season 2 was being pitched to other networks, including streaming services Amazon and Netflix. According to The Hollywood Reporter, both companies did not commit to picking up the series for another season.

"Limitless" fans raised online petitions to bring the show back for another season. The show started with a stellar debut, receiving rave reviews for the first part of its run. THR critic Daniel Fienberg even called it TV's most "creative procedurals."

The show's appeal, however, began to dwindle as the months progressed. There was a significant drop in ratings, and "Limitless" was not able to recuperate.

Nevertheless, all hope is not loss for "Limitless" Season 2. Network transfers have become a common practice recently, the most popular being "Supergirl" flying to The CW from CBS. "Limitless" Season 2 could go a similar route - move out of CBS and into a new home.

The situation with "Supergirl" Season 1 is similar to that of "Limitless." "Supergirl" was not able to generate enough viewership to cover the massive amount it took to produce the show.

The idea is not that far out. As a matter of fact, "Limitless" is too promising show to axe after just one season. Sweeny has even prepared an interesting vision for what would be the show's sophomore season.

"So, we're going to make some changes to the show, but it will remain essentially - we do find a way for it to be Brian taking the NZT working with Rebecca and Boyle and a couple new members on the team, solving crimes and having fun a week-to-week basis," Sweeny told IGN about his ideas for "Limitless" Season 2.

All things considered, Sweeny is more than ready to work on "Limitless" Season 2. All the show needs now is a network that will take them in.
