Still on the free agency market, Norris Cole of the New Orleans Pelicans is still looking for a team to fit his skill set. With no offer yet, the Cleveland Cavaliers look like a team that are poised to take a run at the free agent point guard.
Why Cleveland? It seemed to be a no-brainer for Cole. He spent his college in Cleveland State prior to starting his NBA Career with the Miami Heat.
In his senior year, Cole averaged 21.7 points, 5.8 rebounds, 5.3 assists and 2.2 steals while his jersey number 30 was also retired by the team for the four years of service in Cleveland State.
Entering the NBA, he was considered as one of the luckiest rookies to be drafted by the Miami Heat and team up with LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh.
Coming off the bench as a backup point guard for Mario Chalomers, he averaged six points a game in his first two years and won two championships.
The Pelicans acquired him in 2014 and the injury plagued guard was still able to provide for 10.6 points and 3.7 assists in 45 games and 23 starts.
Now, Lebron James was able to re-acquire Chris Anderson from the Miami Heat and Norris Cole could be on the way especially with contract disputes circling around JR Smith.
The aging Mo Williams may step back and let Cole shine with the team.
Kyrie Irving, a scoring point guard, will surely need Cole's services when Coach Tyrone Lue decides to put his all-star guard on the two position and take the helm at the point.
Cole is a prime position to take over the void left by Matthew Delavedova, who was acquired by the Milwaukee Bucks and give the Cavaliers a push from the bench and toughness.
In a few weeks, seeing Cole suit up for the Cleveland Cavaliers will not be a huge surprise but it will solidify the Cavs 2017 championship run.
