Just over a week after the death of Chinese actress Kitty Xu Ting on Sept. 7 because of lymphoma, another Chinese actor died on Sept. 16 after committing suicide.
Global Times reported that actor Qiao Ren Liang was diagnosed in 2015 with depression. He took his life on Friday, a month before his 28th birthday.
The suicide was reportedly triggered by an unnamed director telling Qiao while shooting a TV drama that he should be prohibited from acting on TV because of his depression. There were times when Qiao relied heavily so much on sleeping pills. Unfortunately, the young actor did not receive support or sufficient treatment for his ailment.
Besides the director’s alleged cruel remarks, Qiao was depressed by the heavy work load of acting, public rumors and criticisms which most celebrities have to endure.
CRIEnglish reported that the actor and singer was found dead in his Shanghai apartment at Qishun Road. Although there are not much details about his death, reports said wounds found on his body were self-inflicted.
He broke into show business by joining in 2007 “My Hero” show and emerging second place winner. He is also known as the singer of the theme song of Microsoft’s Windows 7 in the Asia-Pacific Region. He has appeared in “Legend of Lu Zhen,” “To Youth 2” and “Our Ten Years.” He would be buried in Shanghai.
Besides Qiao, Hong Kong actor Leslie Cheung, also diagnosed with depression, likewise committed suicides.
