Comedian Jim Carrey was shocked and is deeply saddened by the apparent suicide of former girlfriend Cathriona White. As his tribute to 28-year-old Cathriona, the actor described her as "a truly kind and delicate Irish flower, too sensitive for this soil, to whom loving and being loved was all that sparkled."
She apparently took her own life in her Los Angeles home where she was found lifeless on Monday night. Jim says that he felt like he was hit by a lightning bolt when he heard the news that she likely committed suicide, reports Herald.
According to LA Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter, Cathriona - who was also an aspiring actress - was found at 8:40 p.m. Winter adds that that final cause of her death is still being determined through an autopsy. TMZ reports that she likely died from drug overdose since pills were found beside her body.
Cathriona, who uses the handle "LittleIrishCat" for her Twitter and Instagram accounts, was raised in Tipperary, Ireland. She moved to California and worked as a makeup artist and started to date Jim after they met in March 2012, reports E! News.
The couple separated after less than a year of dating, but reconciled in May 2015. They were seen holding hands in New York City, although her suicide note reportedly said they have broken up again on Sept. 24.
Part of the note addressed to Jim reads: "Signing off Twitter, I hope I have been a light to my nearest and dearest."
