Nexus 2016 Rumors

Previous rumors had suggested that the upcoming Google Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones would be unveiled on Oct. 4. Now, a teaser from Google on Twitter officially confirms that the Pixel smartphones are going to be revealed to the world on Oct. 4.

The launch event will be held on Oct. 4 at San Francisco at 8:00 AM PT. Google has also started a dedicated website - madeby.google.com that clearly mentions the Oct. 4 date.

However, all the leading tech sites have reported that Google will be announcing Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones on Oct. 4. When the same madeby.google.com website is visited using an Indian proxy website, it shows a different date of Oct. 5. In select markets like India, the Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones are going to launch on Oct. 5, TheBitBag reported.

Google Pixel, Pixel XL Release Date, Price

Last year, the Google Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P smartphones were readily made available for purchase after they were announced on Sept. 29. Hence, the upcoming Pixel smartphones are expected to be available immediately after they get announced. The Pixel smartphone with 32 GB will be the lowest storage that will cost $649 whereas the lowest storage version of Pixel XL is rumored to be priced at $749, Android Police reported.

Why is Google Axing Nexus Branding?

Since the upcoming Google smartphones are coming with Pixel branding, it can be assumed that it has killed the Nexus branding. Google has not released a new Nexus player or a Nexus tablet since 2014.

Hence, speculations are rife that the search engine giant will be killing the Nexus brand. However, Google is yet to reveal official statement on why it has axed the Nexus lineup.

Google partner with different OEMs to release Nexus products. These devices always carried the names of the manufacturer. Last year, Google released the Pixel C tablet. It was sold as a product that was manufactured by Google even though it was built by partnering with another OEM.

In the same way, the Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones that are scheduled to launch on Oct. 4 will not be sold as HTC devices even through it will be assembling both the devices. Leaked photos of Pixel and Pixel XL show that both the smartphones will carry Google's 'G' logo.
