WWE Rumors: Update on The Shield reunion at the Royal Rumble next year

| Sep 21, 2016 04:24 AM EDT

Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose could form The Shield for one night only at the Royal Rumble.

The Shield has been one of the most successful and dominant factions in the WWE for the past decade. Several rumors are swirling that the company is planning a reunion for The Shield and here are the latest updates about it.

According to Cageside Seats, the WWE is looking to reunite the trio of Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns for one night only. For the first time in years, all The Shield members are babyfaces after Rollins turned on August 29.

The Shield were broken up on the June 2, 2014 episode of Monday Night Raw when Rollins aligned himself with Triple H and The Authority. He destroyed both of his former stablemates with a steel chair. He went on to become the WWE World Heavyweight Champion after their breakup.

On the other hand, Ambrose and Reigns also have successful singles run with all three former members holding the top prize in the company at least once in the past couple of years. They have become pillars of the future of the company.

A reunion by The Shield is expected to create a buzz since many fans thought that breaking them up in 2014 was premature. Nevertheless, the WWE is planning to reunite them at either the Survivor Series or Royal Rumble.

It would be difficult to reunite the three superstars on other pay-per-views since Rollins and Reigns are on Raw while Ambrose is on SmackDown. Survivor Series is just a couple of months away but the perfect timing might be at the Royal Rumble.

They can do a mini-spot wherein Rollins, Ambrose and Reigns will hit their patented Triple Powerbomb on someone. However, timing is the key to a successful reunion and it might be too soon to reunite them even for one night, per Joe Burgett of The Inquisitr.

"While WWE is certainly considering the return of The Shield, the major issue is timing at the end of the day. WWE would like to make big money on the trio coming together as there is quite a lot to be made with a one-off return," Burgett opined.

It is also suggested that the WWE should create a monster heel stable first for The Shield to conquer and make it more special. Nevertheless, these are only rumors at the moment and WWE tends to change their plans almost constantly especially if it gets leaked online.
