'Sword Art Online' Season 3 rumors: Third season in production after 'SAO' live-action series; Plot details based on 'Alicization' arc, 'Progressive' novels?

Sword Art Online is a Japanese light novel series written by Reki Kawahara and illustrated by abec as the story takes place in a near future and focuses on virtual reality MMORPG.

New details and spoilers for "Sword Art Online" season 3 will feature its production plans after the 'SAO' live-action and the possible plot details.

Several rumors are making rounds regarding the production of "Sword Art Online" anime series third season as the show's producer A-1 Pictures has taken any concrete decision as to when they will plan to announce it. The good news, is that "Sword Art Online" anime series has not been cancelled or renewed for a season 3 as far as the showrunners are concerned, when-will.net reported.

There is also news about a live-action version of "Sword Art Online", not to mention that its new anime film, "Sword Art Online: Ordinal Scale" is set on Feb. 18, 2017. There have been speculation that "Sword Art Online" season 3 could be in production after "Ordinal Scale", while others theorized that season 3 could air after the "SAO" live-action series. It also rumored that Netflix will be producing the "SAO" live-action series, ChattSportsNet reported.

As for the possible plot for "Sword Art Online" season 3, anime producer Shinichiro Kashiwada stated in an interview that he would like to see Kirito and the rest of 'SAO' characters featured in the "Alicization" arc since the storyline has not yet incorporated in the anime show.

However, Kashiwada mentioned that the "Progressive" novels could also be implemented in season 3, speculating that both storylines will be featured within the show.

"Progressive" novels in "Sword Art Online" will serve as a reboot of the original light manga illustrated by Himura Hiseki and it will be published by Dengeki G's Comics after they parted ways with the main magazine branch.

The "Alicization" arc on the other hand, will feature Kirigaya Kazuto/Kirito taking on a new job for a mysterious organization called Rath, under orders from the VR Crime Division officer Kikouka Seijiro. Kirito will be testing out a new experimental 4th generation FullDive machine dubbed "Soul Translator" as he tries to observes its effects on people and gather more valuable data.

For now, anime fans will get to see more Kirito and Asuna action in "Sword Art Online: Ordinal Scale" film on February next year as the gang will playing a new MMORPG called "Ordinal Scale" and a new threat has emerge once more to test Kirito preventing another "SAO" incident.
