Square-Enix has announced "Final Fantasy XIV: Stormblood" with a new teaser trailer and its important details. The PlayStation 3 support will be discontinued, but with a free PlayStation 4 upgrade.
Director Naoki Yoshida said that the latest expansion for the game company's MMORPG will be released in early summer 2017, the official blog of PlayStation quoted him saying during the "Final Fantasy XIV" Fan Festival in Las Vegas. A new teaser, which can be viewed below, was shown at the start of the announcement.
The new expansion will focus on taking back the lost city-state of Ala Mhigo from the Garlean Empire. Currently, time has passed so much from the conquest of the city-state. The new generation of its citizens does not know anything else than their oppressors' rule.
The story will start with the Warrior of Light getting in contact with the Ala Mhigan resistance. He has changed his job to a monk as a disguise for this mission. The new teaser trailer revealed him and a mysterious woman in red fighting each other in an intense training session.
The new expansion will feature new things for players to try out like new areas, weapons, and more. One of the new areas revealed was the Rhalgr's Reach.
The expansion will include new jobs for players to try out with their characters. Yoshida teased one of the jobs with a T-Shirt that has Marvel's The Scarlet Witch image. While this could hint the implementation of a red mage job, he did not confirm or provide any further details about this.
The character level cap will be increased from level 60 to level 70 with this new expansion. All of the jobs in "Final Fantasy XIV: Stormblood" will get new actions, and the battle system will be revamped.
According to the official site of Reddit, the additional skill system in the game will be changed as well for the better. The skills of the characters will be regrouped and categorized to be shared between roles this time around and not with jobs.
Actions that were ineffective and unused will be reassessed by the development team, and they may reduce its number soon. The UI of the game will be changed too, with specific icons for all jobs. This will make it easier for players to keep track of cooldowns.
The new expansion will include new primals for players to fight. There will be some familiar ones from the "Final Fantasy" series, and there will some original ones made exclusively for the MMORPG.
With the help of Sony, Square-Enix will be starting a new upgrade campaign. Players who are still playing with the PS3 version of the game can get the chance to upgrade it to the PS4 version for free.
The game company will support the PS3 version of "Final Fantasy XIV" until the release of the expansion, and afterwards they will discontinue it. They are also thinking of extending the free PS4 upgrade to PS3 players that have allowed their subscription to lapse already.
