Sony just rolled out the Firmware Update 4.81 for PlayStation 3 console on Nov. 1 and is now available for download.

This is a stability update for PlayStation 3 console owners and it should not be expected to bring a big difference. The update measures around 200MB in size.

The update is posted on the official site of PlayStation with a note. The official site confirms that an update to the PlayStation 3 system software was released on Nov. 1. Once you update your PS3 console, the system software version will be 4.81 and some features will also be updated. For this update, your system should have a minimum free space of 200MB on either your PS3 Hard Disk Drive (System Update) or on removable storage media (PC Update).

This Firmware Update 4.81 version improves the quality of the system performance. Depending on the software title, PS3 owners may not be able to play without updating the PS3 system software first.

Sony has also issued a warning on the PlayStation website stating that users should not make PlayStation 3 update  using any data other than the official update data provided by Sony Computer Entertainment via a network or disc media. Any deviation from this may result in malfunctioning of the PS3 system making it unable to install official update data. Any such action can void the PS3 system warranty offered by Sony Computer Entertainment.

While updating the system, it is recommended not to interrupt the update process by making use of the PlayStation's keys, removing the power cable or storage unit, powering it off or in any other manner. Once the update is finished, go to the System Information section under System Settings of your system to check if it is showing the 4.81 version or not.

PlayStation 3 system update 4.81 is not a major update but you need to download the update as early as possible if you want to visit the PlayStation Store and/or enjoy thrilling video games online, Attack of the Fanboy, reported.

While people are converting faster with Sony's PlayStation 4 console, Sony decided to offer a new update for the PS3 users who are still loyal to the older version when the company is planning to launch the new PlayStation 4 Pro console in next November.
