Surprise contenders Real Sociedad (5-4-1, 16 points) will take on the challenge of perennial powerhouse Atletico Madrid (6-1-3, 21 points) in a 2016-2017 La Liga season match at their home field of Anoeta Stadium on Saturday, Nov. 5.

Real Sociedad is currently on a two-game winning run and has won four of their last six games to climb to the sixth spot of the Spanish top flight table. They are tied on points with Athletic Bilbao but has a more superior goal difference to take sixth place and temporarily occupy the final Europa League qualifying berth for next season.

Head coach Eusebio Sacristán's squad is coming off an impressive 2-0 blanking of newly-promoted side Leganes on the road at the Butarque Stadium on Oct. 28, as per the Business Standard.

Brazilian striker Willian Jose opened the scoring in the 29th minute with a header from the center of the box off a cross by defender Carlos Martinez.

Team captain Xabi Prieto then doubled the lead in the 59th minute to seal the win for the visitors.

Meanwhile, Atletico Madrid bounced back from their loss to Sevilla in the previous round by thrashing Malaga in a high-scoring 4-2 win at their home ground of Vicente Calderon Stadium last Saturday, Daily Mail Online reported.

Yannick Carrasco and Kevin Gameiro both had braces for head coach Diego Simeone's side to complete the team's four-goal masterpiece.

Carrasco started scoring in the seventh minute before Gameiro doubled the lead in the 24th. Malaga answered with a 31st-minute goal from Spanish forward Sandro to make it a 2-1 count.

Gameiro scored his second goal of the game one minute before the halftime interval to give Atleti an almost insurmountable 3-1 lead at the break.

The second half saw two red cards as Atleti's Stefan Savic and Malaga's Chory Castro was sent off in the 60th and 88th minutes respectively.

Malaga midfielder Ignacio Camacho netted one in the 64th while Carrasco scored his second goal in the 86th to seal the final count.
