LG V20 root method now available, dual sim variants not included

The LG G6 is the sixth edition of the LG smartphone series.

LG has just recently released the LG V20 in the United States and the rest of Asia but some of the models have already been rooted by XDA developers.

The LG V20 root method is now available over at XDA but there is a caveat. It is only available for the single sim model and not the dual sim that is released in some parts of Asia.

Having a dual sim phone is an advantage for those who use two carriers for their smartphones. One SIM could be for the LTE data plans while the other could be solely for SMS and phone calls.

XDA developers have managed to crack the LG V20 H918 single sim variant allowing it to be finally rooted, Tech Times has learned. Once rooted, users can install other apps that use SuperSU to function.

For instance, Titanium Backup Pro needs root access to be able to back up and restore data to phones. Some users have reported that they did backups from their old phones but found that they are not able to restore them on the LG V20 Dual Sim variants because it had no root access.

Chainfire announced on their twitter that they managed to install SuperSU onto an LG V20 for root access, Android Authority reported. Before rooting, users should be aware of the risks such as the possible bricking of the device if they do not follow the instructions to a T.

Another caveat for rooting the LG V20 is that users will void their warranty. Some have LG Warranty for a whole year and they could find themselves shouldering the cost if their device suddenly breaks down as the warranty is voided.

Rooting also allows some malicious apps to have access to the user's sensitive data such as SMS messages and calls. Remote hackers could even access the cameras and microphone for espionage purposes.

LG V20 root method is available via the XDA developers forum. Users need to note that only the LG V20 H918 Single Sim variant is currently available for rooting.
