"Titanfall" and "Titanfall 2" developer Respawn Entertainment says it is unsure if its sequel, "Titanfall 3," will happen. Though the last game, released on Oct. 28, received critical acclaim, it is believed that the commercial failure of the game has cast an uncertainty over series' future titles.
Replying to a question on whether Respawn will make a sequel to "Titanfall 2," CEO Vince Zampella told Glixel in an interview that though the game has been critically acclaimed, it was very early to comment on its long-term commercial performance. He added that he was not sure whether they will get to make another "Titanfall."
According to Zampella, they never had plans to make a "Titanfall" trilogy. Elaborating on the issue, the Respawn CEO said in October this year that when one creates something new, they always hope that people would embrace and love it for generations.
Hence, Respawn too plans to do more, but they also need to focus on mobile games. Zampella said, "We definitely like to tell more of the story and the universe. I think it's pretty safe to assume that we'll explore more of it."
While Respawn is still uncertain about the future "Titanfall" series, a publicist for EA, Bevin Bennett said that they are "committed to the franchise." Bennett told the website that they are still committed to the franchise.
Commenting on the release date of "Titanfall 2," Zampella said that the title was somewhat sandwiched between the release of "Battlefield 1" (Oct. 21) and "Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare" (Nov. 4). Many believe EA has harmed its interests unintentionally by releasing "Titanfall 2" on Oct. 28, as it led to poor sales, Gamespot reported.
One of the reasons for the poor sales of "Titanfall 2" is also being attributed to the fact that the title was released on more platforms than "Titanfall." This perhaps is why "Titanfall 2" could not match opening week numbers of the original game. Currently, the title is available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
