Netflix has a new vampire drama post-Halloween offering, "Van Helsing" which takes up the vampire hunting mantle with Vanessa Van Helsing, the granddaughter of Abraham Van Helsing. She will be portrayed by "True Blood" star Kelly Overton who will lead a resistance against vampires. The new thriller will premiere on the streaming giant for its subscribers in United Kingdom on Dec. 17.

The entire "Van Helsing" Season 1 will be available to stream for those who want to binge watch all its episodes while Season 2 has already been commissioned. Joining Overton in the cast are Jonathan Scarfe, David Cubitt, Trezzo Mahoro, Paul Johansson, Christopher Heyerdahl, Vincent Gale, Laura Mennel, Rukiya Bernard, Tim Guinee and Aleks Paunovic, The Sun reported.

The upcoming vampire drama follows a volcanic eruption when vampires rise up through an ash-filled and dark sky to overtake America. The descendant of legendary vampire hunters, Vanessa awakens from a three-year coma to find out she is immune to vampires and can turn them into humans again.

The thriller will follow Vanessa's mission to "cure" the vampires while threatening their existence and save humanity. Whether she will succeed or not is something to be seen.

The streaming giant's U.K. arm has secured the exclusive U.K. rights and had added to its slate of exclusive titles  the Syfy series. Along with the new vampire series Netflix acquired is "The Man in the High Castle" creator Frank Spotnitz, "Medici: Masters of Florence," TVWise reported.

The vampire thriller  is distributed by Dynamic Television and produced by Nomadic Pictures which is also its studio. Chad Oakes, Mike Frislev, Simon Barry, Daniel March, Dave Brown, Evan Tyler and Zadoc Angell  are executive producing, and so is Neil LaBute who is also the writer and showrunner.

Netflix U.K. has been into first run acquisitions. The deals for "Van Helsing" and "Medici: Masters of Florence" followed its exclusive licensing agreements for Star Trek franchise "Star Trek: Discovery," USA Networks's "Shooter," CW's "Frequency" reboot, Syfy's space-opera "The Expanse" and Kiefer Sutherland's ABC political drama "Designated Survivor."
