Huawei P9, Mate 8 receives Android 7.0 Nougat update in China; How to install Android Nougat

With the plethora of smartphone manufacturers beginning to update their flagship devices into the Android 7.0 Nougat firmware, the future of OS in existing devices is getting brighter with Huawei's Mate 8 and P9 handsets. In the latest news, the company has reportedly positioned the latest OS firmware on these handsets in China and will eventually continue among all users.

Two of Huawei's popular handsets, the Huawei Mate 8 and P9, are gradually updating its Android operating system starting from China, according to News Every Day. This means consumers in the U.S. would need to wait longer to enjoy Android Nougat on their Huawei P9s and Mate 8s.

According to a report that surfaced in China, some users are already getting Android 7.0 Nougat-based EMUI (Emotion UI) 5.0 update. The Huawei P9 comes with a B352 firmware version in China, while the Mate 8 comes with a B552 firmware version.

In order to update for the latest OS firmware, users can simply go to 'Settings,' where they should access the 'About Phone' panel. In the said panel, a button to tap for the update, usually the first one, should notify a 'checking for updates.'

Under the hood, the Android Nougat firmware is said to carry number of new features such as a redesigned UI, new notification shade options and fixes added to the skin.

The company had been running a beta program for the Android N update. Now, a recent rumor suggested that the Huawei P9 and Huawei Mate 8 could start getting the Android 7.0 Nougat update in the near future, preferably Q1 2017.

According to Neurogadget, Huawei has not issued an official statement regarding to an Android 7.0 Nougat update for these flagships in India, although the company previously revealed that the Android N update will arrive with the company's Android user interface i.e. EMUI version 5.0.

Interestingly enough, Google's own Pixel and Nexus gadgets, Samsung's recent Galaxy A series and S series will also receive the complete Nougat experience aside from the Huawei Mate 8 and P9. Earlier, the Android 7.0 Nougat is made available on Sony Xperia XZ and Xperia X Performance and LG V20.
