Huawei is expected to bring the Huawei Mate 9 to the United States soon. It will reportedly be released alongside the Porsche Design model but the Pro and Lite model might be unavailable.
The Huawei Mate 9 smartphone is already available in large markets such as in China, the United Arab Emirates, Malaysia, Thailand and Japan. Users in the U.S. have been waiting for the phone since its launch because of its cheap price but competitive specs.
Reliable leaker Evan Blass has posted on Twitter that the Huawei Mate 9 will be sold in the U.S. starting on Jan. 6, GSM Arena reported. Blass has a good track record when it comes to leaks in the mobile industry and his claims could be trusted. However, he did not mention whether the other variants of the Mate 9 will also be available in the country.
The Porsche Design model has an upgraded design but it has a more expensive price tag. There is no other special spec besides the design and it could still sell for those customers who like limited edition products.
Interested buyers can actually but the Huawei Mate 9 on Amazon starting at $799 but the official release would see U.S. carriers offering the phone with data plans, Phone Arena reported. Users will be able to afford the Android smartphone because they would have to pay smaller amounts every month instead of just one lump sum.
The Huawei Mate 9 features a 5.9-inch screen with 1080p resolution. It is powered by Huawei's own Kirin 960 SoC similar to how Samsung uses their own Exynos chipsets on their Galaxy flagship smartphones.
Users can choose between the 64GB and the 128GB model but they can also just add a 256GB microSD card because of the expandable storage. Interested customers can wait until Jan. 6 to see whether Huawei will actually sell the Mate 9 through U.S. carriers.
