The girls of the K-Pop girl group TWICE have once again successfully set a record. They hold the title of highest album sale for 2016, an official from the group's agency said

TWICE's latest EP titled "TWICEcoaster: LANE1," which was released on Oct. 24, sold more than 347,000 copies, according to a press release from JYP Entertainment obtained by Yonhap News. This also means that the South Korean girl group's EP has the highest sales for all girl groups in Korea in 2016.

TWICE was formed in 2015 by record label JYP Entertainment. The nine-member girl group was formed through the reality show, "Sixteen." The girls made their debut on Oct. 20, 2015, with "The Story Begins" as their mini album. Since their debut, Nayeon, Momo, Sana, Jihyo, Mina, Chaeyoung, Tzuyu, Jeongyeon, and Dahyun have constantly maintained the success of the group through their EP sales.

The debut EP, "The Story Begins," sold 100,000 copies while the second EP, "Page Two," almost doubled with 180,000 copies sold. "TWICE's outstanding results with 'Cheer Up' this year symbolizes JYP's successful entry into a new era," Soompi quoted record label representative Jung Wook as saying.

Jung added that the success that TWICE is basking in at the moment is just the beginning. He explained, "They still have a long way to go while always remembering where they came from."

Still, it is evident that Wook is more than satisfied with what the girls have achieved in their career. The results of the record exceeded the expectations of the record label, he said.

For industry experts, getting EP sales of more than 50,000 is already considered a successful feat for a K-Pop girl group in South Korea and TWICE did just that. The girl group has sold a total of over 600,000 copies since their debut in 2017, a record that girl groups would find hard to achieve.
