Google Pixel, Pixel XL users reporting sudden shutdowns and battery drains under 30 percent mark

A new Google Pixel XL phone is displayed at the new Google pop-up shop in the SoHo neighborhood on October 20, 2016 in New York City.

Customers who bought the recent Google Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones are now claiming that their devices' battery drains faster once it reaches the 30 percent mark. The problems surface months just after the devices were initially released by Google.

Battery life has always been a problem across all smartphones regardless of brand or platform. However, most flagships today usually last for more than a day in moderate use. The problem with the Google Pixel smartphones is that they reportedly shutdown despite having more than a quarter of the battery life left.

Google told Forbes that they are already investigating three reports regarding the Google Pixel and Pixel XL battery drain issues. They currently have no idea on what is causing the problems and the number of reports seem to be increasing in both the forums and Reddit threads.

Users who are affected by the problem usually report their Pixel devices draining fast or shutting down between the 25 to 35 percent mark. The issue is also similar to what the Nexus 6P users have claimed besides the fact that there is an ongoing bootloop issue with Android Nougat on the devices.

Other Google Pixel and Pixel XL problems include audio distortion plus disrupted LTE connectivity, NDTV reported. Some of the problems still have no solutions but the positive reviews outweigh the negative feedback Google's smartphones are receiving. The phones have been compared with the recent Galaxy S7 Edge, Apple iPhone 7 and even the underrated LG V20.

Android Nougat could be to blame for the battery drain issue as a hardware problem is least likely to be the cause. The Pixel and Pixel XL have been recently released but there is still a possibility that a percentage of the shipped devices are defective. Other users have no problems with their Pixel devices.

Those who are affected by the Google Pixel and Pixel XL problems may need to wait for Google's official announcement regarding the issue. The issues mentioned are not as harmful as the Galaxy Note 7's exploding battery problem.
