John Cena vs. The Undertaker is one of the rumored matches for WrestleMania 33. The dream match is still possible if Cena wins the WWE championship and The Undertaker wins the Royal Rumble Match.
In a recent interview, Cena added fuel to the fire when he revealed his desire to face The Undertaker in the future. He was asked by ESPN if he is interested in a showdown with "The Deadman" and his answer was a resounding YES.
"Undertaker certainly is a cornerstone of WWE, and just as I say to myself that I really would have liked to been able to get to know and certainly get in the ring with Andre the Giant, just because of all the respect and folklore that went around with Andre, I think The Undertaker has that same sort of respect and folklore around him," Cena said.
"If you're asking if I'd want to be in a high-profile match with one of the most legendary superstars in the industry, my answer is yes," he added.
According to The Wrestling Observer (subscription required), Cena vs. Taker was the original plan for WrestleMania 32. The match was scrapped when Cena suffered a shoulder injury and he had to undergo surgery.
On the other hand, The Undertaker went on to wrestle Shane McMahon at WrestleMania 32. As of this writing, there are a lot of speculations floating around the internet regarding the plans for Cena and The Undertaker.
The 15-time WWE champion is already scheduled to face A.J. Styles for the WWE title at the Royal Rumble. The Undertaker will appear on next week's episode of Monday Night Raw wherein he is expected to announce his entry to the Royal Rumble Match.
The dream match is still possible if they both win their respective matches. It is something that many WWE fans want and it will surely help sell out the Camping World Stadium in Orlando, Florida where WrestleMania 33 is going to take place.
The last time Cena and The Undertaker engaged in a feud was in 2003 when they were both part of SmackDown. Cena was still a heel at that time and he was under his "Doctor of Thuganomics" gimmick while The Undertaker was in his "Big Evil" persona.
If all the stars aligned at the right moment, WWE fans will get Cena vs. Taker at WrestleMania 33. However, the WWE tends to change their plans on a regular basis so fans have to keep their fingers crossed.
