The Undertaker is scheduled to appear on Monday Night Raw for the first time in ten months next week, January 9. According to the latest rumors, The Undertaker is expected to announce that he will be entering the 2017 Royal Rumble Match.
The WWE announced on Monday, January 2, that The Undertaker is going to appear on next week's episode of Raw, per Wrestling Inc. "The Deadman" will be joined by his former rival, Shawn Michaels, who will be promoting his WWE Studios-produced film titled, "The Resurrection of Gavin Stone."
On the other hand, The Undertaker is rumored to be announcing his participation on the 30-Man Royal Rumble Match on January 29 in San Antonio, Texas. The WWE has been building this year's Rumble event as the biggest one in history, per Cageside Seats.
As of this writing, there are only eight superstars confirmed for the 2017 Royal Rumble Match. Bill Goldberg and Brock Lesnar already announced their entry late last year while Chris Jericho, The New Day and Braun Strowman declare their participation last Monday on Raw.
Baron Corbin also announced on SmackDown Live that he will be entering the Royal Rumble Match. So far, those are big names along with up and comers. The addition of The Undertaker has been speculated for a couple of weeks now.
The 51-year-old legend is the overwhelming favorite to win the Rumble Match on several betting websites. It is believed that The Undertaker will challenge for the WWE championship at WrestleMania 33.
There were some reports indicating that the WWE is planning several matches for The Undertaker at WrestleMania 33. Some of the possible opponents for him include John Cena, Roman Reigns and A.J. Styles.
However, the clash with Styles has already been shelved which means The Undertaker likely faces Cena or Reigns. Since Taker is with SmackDown Live, a showdown with Cena might be on the horizon. Some fans have been calling for the dream match for several years now.
Taker vs. Cena was originally scheduled for last year's WrestleMania but the latter suffered a shoulder injury. But now that both superstars are healthy, there dream match at WrestleMania 33 in Orlando looks inevitable.
And to add fuel to the Cena vs. Taker rumors, the 15-time WWE champ told ESPN in an interview that he wants to wrestle The Undertaker. He called the living legend a cornerstone of the WWE just like Andre the Giant.
"If you're asking if I'd want to be in a high-profile match with one of the most legendary superstars in the industry, my answer is yes," Cena said.
It should be noted that these are just purely speculative at the moment and nothing is sure since the WWE tends to change their plans on a regular basis. For more WWE news, rumors and updates, just follow me on Twitter @johnnyrundown.
