HTC U Ultra Sapphire limited edition may cost more than $900

After the recent release of HTC U Ultra alongside the HTC U Play on Jan. 12 in Taiwan, the tech giant is preparing to release its HTC U 11 flagship device.

HTC's new flagship, the U Ultra, has replaced the HTC 11 which was anticipated by fans since 2016. The company has announced on their official website that there will be a limited Sapphire edition that will be launched later.

Pre-orders for the base model of the HTC U Ultra can already be made for a rather expensive price of $749. The price tag puts it in line with the LG V20, Google Pixel and even the iPhone 7.

HTC U Ultra specs include the updated Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 chipset and 4GB RAM. The screen has a size of 5.7-inches and sports 1440p for the pixel resolution.

The HTC U Ultra Sapphire edition pre-orders will start to be available in the middle of February, GSM Arena has learned. It is expected to have better screen protection than the base model's Corning Gorilla Glass 5 because of the Sapphire glass although the price may jump.

Besides the Sapphire glass screen, there are other goodies for those who will pre-order the special edition. It will include the same key ring, leather case plus unnamed surprise additions that may justify the high price tag.

HTC U Ultra Sapphire edition is expected to cost around $920, Phone Arena reported. That would be a considerable increase without any upgraded specs. It may be a good choice for those who tend to scratch their screens or those who do not want to stick a protector because of aesthetics. Still, it does not guarantee an indestructible display screen.

With the Samsung Galaxy S8 delayed for April, the HTC U Ultra may be a good choice for those who have cash to burn. Interested customers can start to pre-order on HTC's official website once the company opens its gates for buyers.
