Chongqing Publishing Group, the publisher of the books of “Game of Thrones” author George R.R. Martin, said that the Chinese version of “The Winds of Winter” would come out in 2018. The novel is the final book of Martin’s fantasy trilogy “A Song of Ice and Fire.”
The 2018 publication of a Chinese version would match with a recent blog post by Martin that he believes he would finish “Winds of Winter” by 2017. In July 2010, Martin said he had written four chapters of the book. However, working on “Game of Thrones” which became a hit TV series plus his style of writing has caused the book to remain unfinished, Mobilenapp reported.
Writing Style
Two authors who worked with Martin on another book explain the pace in his writing to the author’s gardening style in which he does not work based on an outline but wants the story too develop along the way. Otherwise, if Martin knows where the story would move, he loses interest in writing it.
Besides “Game of Thrones” which was published in the U.S. in 1996, Martin has authored four more books. These are “A Clash of Kings,” “A Storm of Swords,” “A Feast for Crows” and “A Dance with Dragons.” In 2005, Chongqing Publishing Group published the Chinese editions of Martin’s books of which more than 3.5 million copies had been sold, China Daily reported.
E-book Version
Chongqing also has an e-book version of the series which are popular among Kindle tablet owners. Martin’s e-books topped the list of most popular e-books of Amazon in 2014. All of Martin’s e-books were on the Top 10 bestselling e-books list of Amazon in 2015.
The publishing house launched also a souvenir edition of “A Song of Ice and Fire” in Beijing recently to mark the 12th anniversary of the book’s launch in China. Chongqing would also publish other peripheral products related to Martin’s books such as coloring books.
