Jason Momoa will join Henry Cavill as one of the DC characters to have his own film with 'Aquaman' set to be released in 2018.

Production for the standalone "Aquaman" is still ongoing, and much of the movie's storyline and plot remains a heavily-guarded secret. However, there are rumblings that the Jason Momoa-starrer will see Aquaman caught up in a conflict between humans and the Atlanteans who. Here is everything we know so far about the movie.

"Aquaman" movie plot

According to reports, the "Aquaman" movie plot will show the origins of the King of the Seven Seas. He will also be torn between his own people and the humans as the Atlanteans plot to punish the humans for abusing the seas and the creature that dwell in them.

The movie, however, will not be a straight up origins story since it will pick up after the events in "Justice League." Although this has not been confirmed yet, what is certain for now is that the "Aquaman" movie is going to be "really fun."

"It's going to be fun; it's going to be really fun," writer Will Beall told Collider. He added that director James Wan has a clear idea of the tone he wants "Aquaman" to have and the direction he's going with it.

"I think Aquaman is one that's going to blow people's minds, not just visually, but I think the story and the scope of it is really great."

Black Adam makes an appearance

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is reported to make an appearance in "Aquaman" as Black Adam. The character was initially planned to be a villain in DC's upcoming Shazam movie, but it appears that Johnson will make his DCEU debut earlier than expected.

"Also, don't rule out an appearance by Black Adam in AQUAMAN as a tease (for his own solo movie). Not saying it will happen, just don't rule it out," said The Hollywood Reporter's Borys Kit (via Express).

It was previously reported that the main villain in the film will be Black Manta. It is unclear up to what capacity Black Adam will appear in the film.

Most challenging DC movie yet

Pre-production for "Aquaman" began in Australia in November last year. The movie is said to be the most challenging one to make so far in the DC Extended Universe titles. A lot of the action sequences are going to take place underwater, making filming difficult.

"Aquaman" is set to hit theaters on July 27, 2018.
