Triple H may be forced to set up new storylines following the recent injury to Seth Rollins. Both were expected to face off in a mentor vs. student match but the latter reported re-injured his knee after an attack by Samoa Joe.

Triple H finally emerged at the Jan. 30 edition of WWE Raw, initially showing that he was ready to mix it up with his former protégé. But it turned out to be a setup with Samoa Joe suddenly emerging to attack Rollins from behind according to WWE.com.

Samoa Joe was expected to make the big jump to the WWE main shows. There were previous speculations that he would be among the participants for the Royal Rumble 2017. The 37-year-old never appeared but it turned out that he was being set for a bigger debut the night after.

Joe capped his ambush with his patented Coquina Clutch finisher on Seth Rollins. But that turned out to be the reason behind the injury with Rollins spotted limping out on crutches thereafter. It was later revealed that the knee injury is the same one the former champion suffered in 2015 in another report from WWE.com. The injury may keep Rollins for eight weeks.

With the healing time for Rollins in question, there is no word on who Triple H would be facing at Wrestlemania 33. He could opt to sit out for now though the previous years have seen him in key matches.

But the bigger question is what lies ahead for Samoa Joe. His debut hinted at a likely match with Seth Rollins for WWE Fastlane and now the landscape has changed. There is no word yet on who would fill in but names like WWE Universal Champion Kevin Owens, Braun Strowman, and Finn Balor have been suggested.

He could also turn on Triple H to set up a match at Wrestlemania 33 though it may be too early to see a face turn by the two-time WWE NXT champion. A lot of that should take shape at the Feb. 6 edition of WWE Raw.
