The samurai protagonist in 'Katana ZERO' prepares for the kill.

The 8-bit-looking hack and slash platformer "Katana ZERO" has caught the attention of quite a number of gamers as of late. Its game developer, Askiisoft even shelled out a video providing a sneak peek of what would-be players will be getting by the time it is released.

The game is depicted as a "fast-paced neo-noir action platformer" as it showcases physics-defying combo attacks with a touch of the 80's that is pretty much evident on most of its backdrops, according to the game's website. With a katana wielding samurai as its protagonist, the unnamed assassin comes in prepared with additional weapons and a drug known as Chronos that is said to manipulate time itself.

The protagonist has got some artistic way of finishing off his foes not to mention that the red color tone is very much represented with the deluge of blood splatter with every kill. In addition, a screen shake ensues after every hit which adds coolness to each attack. However, players who had a bit of motion sickness in them can easily turn that feature off on its settings.

Aside from the 80s look and feel, its soundtrack capped off the game's throwback approach. Its synth wave induced musical score was done by ludoWic who is responsible for the game's theme while Bill Kiley did the score for "You Will Never Know," VG 24/7 reported.

"Katana ZERO" is being backed up by Adult Swim which is quite a handful as of late in the gaming arena. Apart from "Katana," the company also backed other titles such as "Headlander," "Small Radios and Big Televisions," "Duck Game," "Ray's The Dead," and "Death's Gambit."

Currently, both Askiisoft and Adult Swim have not decided yet on when the game will be out including what platform will it be played on. Nevertheless, the game is already listed on Steam making it safe to assume that it will be played on a PC.
