Emmy Winner Katherine Heigl in ‘Doubt.' A new legal drama series on CBS

ABC Network's popular medical drama "Grey's Anatomy" executive producers Joan Rater and Tony Phelan are all set to launch their new drama "Doubt" on CBS, starring Katherine Heigl who played surgical resident Dr. Issie Stevens in the former series.

The husband-wife duo when left "Grey's Anatomy" they were sure they wanted to take at least one legacy from the medical drama, and they chose to cast Heigl in their new legal drama on CBS network. Both were part of Grey's Anatomy for six seasons, out of which, Heigl was part of five.

As noted by the USA today, the show stars Katherine as Sadie Ellis, a bold and beautiful New York attorney who is full of confidence. Her new case is about defending Senator son Billy Brenan, who is convicted of killing his high school girlfriend years ago. Sadie is doing everything in her power to prove him innocent.

The duo has not only bought Heigl in the legal drama but her character too. She is yet again falling for her client in the new series, similarly as she fell in love with cardiothoracic patient Denny Duquette in Grey's Anatomy.

Meanwhile, "Doubt" is not only about Katherine. The show also stars Laverne Cox, who got noticed for her work in Netflix series "Orange Is the New Black" as transgender inmate Sophia Burset. Cox is the first transgender to be cast in a regular prime-time TV show.

According to the reports by Los Angeles times, "Doubt" is an inspiration from the age-old legal drama "The Practice," which was also a favorite TV show for Rater and Phelan. The producers even confessed that they are happy about casting Katherine as the main lead as they have known her for last ten years.

The show was earlier planned to be aired in 2015-16. However, due to certain circumstances, it got delayed. Much after the re-development and re-casting, the show is all ready to make its mark on CBS with it 13-episode series.
