Samsung Galaxy S8 just hinted at the MWC; Revealed Galaxy Books instead

| Feb 27, 2017 12:27 PM EST

The 12-inch render of the Samsung Galaxy Book was unveiled at the 2017 MWC.

The mobile device scene sure looks promising this 2017, as the Mobile World Congress (MWC) that kicked off today at the Fira Gran Via in Barcelona already showcased some of the much-awaited devices that are expected to be released this year. One of the companies present is South Korean tech firm Samsung whom many anticipated that they will be announcing the Samsung Galaxy S8.

What happened was otherwise. The company only provided attendees with a short clip hinting about the aforementioned handset. However, not a single glimpse of how the Galaxy S8 would look like was spotted on the video.

The 30-second video only treated its viewers with splices of clips showing rough sketches and diagrams of a typical mobile phone render. The only juicy info that the clip has given was the outline of the handset that seems to tally with previously leaked images of the upcoming device.

Such decision by Samsung to delay Galaxy S8's launch has deemed by tech analysts as a marketing strategy to bog down the momentum of its rivals now that competition is stiffer than ever. Another thing worth mentioning was 2016's Note 7 snafu that Samsung is still recuperating from as that corporate blow cost them billions of dollars.

Apart from Samsung, fellow South Korean conglomerate - LG was also present at the event as they finally unveiled banner handset - the G6. Nokia is also making a comeback in the mobile arena with handsets now preloaded with an Android operating system. Huawei also took part in the said event alongside its latest offering, the Huawei P10, Forbes has learned.

What Samsung revealed are two renders of their latest hybrid ultraportable dubbed the Samsung Galaxy Book. The 2-in-1 device will have a 10 and 12-inch variants and both will be carrying a Windows OS, according to Windows Central. Just like Microsoft's own Surface Pro device, the Galaxy Book will also sport a removable keyboard that some tech buffs consider it as a worthy challenger to the current Surface Pro 4.

As of late, Samsung Galaxy S8 will be launched in New York at their Unpacked event on March 29. Nonetheless, it is yet to be announced as to when will it be released. It is believed though that the handset might be out in late 2017.
