Lei Jun, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Xiaomi Inc., introduces Xiaomi VR glasses and new smartphones during a launch event at Peking University Gymnasium.

Xiaomi's Mi MIX is currently making the rounds online with its impressive features like for one, revealing the renewed participation of famous French designer Philip Starck on the Mi MIX 2's design. Now, new details on the said phone are emerging such as the newly-confirmed in-display fingerprint technology.

During the Mobile World Congress held in Barcelona last month, Xiaomi's industry analyst Pan Jiutang revealed the upcoming in-display fingerprint technology to the Mi MIX 2, GizmoChina reported. The Chinese company Goodix showcased the monumental display in the event, which aims to remove the physical fingerprint sensor button or rear-mounted sensor on most devices.

In addition, Jiutang then announced that customers of the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 will start seeing Goodix's fingerprint technology sometime in the second half of this year. Following rumors, Apple is also highly expected to use the similar technology on its flagship iPhone 8 model this year.

Aside from debuting the latest fingerprint security feature, the Mi MIX 2 has also increased its screen-to-body ratio higher than the 91.3 percent screen-to-body ratio of its predecessor, Android Geeks reported. According to reports, the Mi MIX 2 will now sport a 93 percent screen-to-body ratio.

On another note, the upcoming Mi MIX II is expected to carry the same ceramic body similar to its predecessors.

Xiaomi founder Lei Jun did not reveal any key specs or hardware for the upcoming Mi MIX 2, although he made a guarantee of putting the exciting innovations into reality. More details on the key specs and hardware of Mi MIX 2 may come before its release in the second half of the year.

Meanwhile, for those uninitiated, the Xiaomi Mi MIX comes with a ceramic finish and a 6.4-inch display which bears a 9:17 aspect ratio resulting in a 1080x2040 pixels resolution. It covers a pixel density of 362ppi, and a 94-percent NTSC color gamut. Also, the upcoming Mi MIX may see hardware stabilization on the rear and front camera.

Under the hood, the Mi MIX is armed with Snapdragon 821 64-bit quad-core SoC, coupled with two RAM and storage variants: a 4GB/6GB of RAM and a 128GB/256GB of non-expandable native storage. On the camera front, the device features a 16-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel front-snapper. It houses a 4,400mAh battery with Qualcomm's Quick Charge fast charging. It comes with Android 6.0 Marshmallow pre-installed with the company's MIUI 8 OS placed on top.
