HTC will soon expand its mobile phone lineup with the upcoming release of its HTC U smartphone. The key selling point of the device will be its new input method called "Edge Sense," which will allow users to control different actions on the HTC U through touch gestures.
According to Pocket-lint, the upcoming iteration of HTC is expected to mark as the company's third handset in the "U" lineup, following HTC U Play and HTC U Ultra that debuted in January this year.
Codenamed as HTC Ocean, the HTC U smartphone will be sporting innovative features that will give seamless options for smartphone users. According to The Mobile Indian, the device is expected to introduce the new Sense Touch technology encased on a touch-sensitive frame to be called as "Edge Sense."
The Edge Sense technology is sited on the device's metal frame, which can be activated through touch gestures. Users will be able to swipe along the left or right side of the device and perform various actions like open apps, scroll down on pages, access the camera easier and other actions within the smartphone's system.
Specs-wise, the HTC U will sport a 5.5-inch WQHD display resulting to 2560 x 1440 pixel resolution. Under the hood, the smartphone is armed by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor, which is the reason why the flagship took longer to arrive this year. Because of the high-end Qualcomm chipset, the HTC U will compete against the likes of Samsung Galaxy S8 and Sony Xperia XZ Premium.
Information on its internal storage reveals either a 64GB or 128GB of internal memory, with an option of expanding storage via microSD card slot.
In the optics department, the phone boasts a 12-megapixel primary rear camera with Sony IMX362 sensor, while a 16-megapixel camera with Sony IMX351 sensor sits on the front panel. On the software front, the device will run on the latest Sense 9 that is based on Android's Nougat firmware.
According to reports, the company is expected to unveil the device in mid or late April, followed by a global retail release in May.
