‘Riverdale’ writer makes introduces house sigils for the four main families

'Riverdale' stars Luke Perry, Madelaine Petsch, Cole Sprouse and Lili Reinhart join writer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa at SiriusXM's Entertainment Weekly Radio Channel Broadcasts From Comic-Con 2016.

If you've been watching "Riverdale" Season 1, you'll notice that the town drama and conflict that envelopes the small town involves a lot of the known families therein. Sounds familiar? Probably, because that's how things go down in "Game of Thrones" as well. "Riverdale" staff writer Brian Paterson also took notice of this, and made sigils for the families of the core characters.

As reported by Comicbook.com, Paterson created family crest for the families of Archie Andrews, Jughead Jones, Betty Cooper and Veronica Lodge.

House Andrews shows a hammer and a nail, with the motto "Strength and Foundation." House Cooper's sigil is an open book, with the motto "Truth in All Things." House Jones's crest has a snake, with the motto "Wise as Serpents." House Lodge, on the other hand, has a diamond on its sigil, with the motto "Family, Honor, Unity."

The symbols represent each family's industry or their character. Archie's family owns a construction company and Jughead's dad is the leader of the Southside Serpents. The book on Betty's family's house crest represents her studious nature. The diamond on the Lodge's sigil symbolizes their wealth.

As noted by ScreenRant, the sigils also seem to take inspiration from "Harry Potter," particularly with regard to the colors of the sigils. The colors for House Andrews is predominantly red, House Cooper is yellow, House Jones is green and House Lodge is blue, which is similar to Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Slytherin and Ravenclaw colors.

The sigils definitely give the show an interesting take, and with Paterson who have written the script for episode 10, it might be an indicator that the conflict between these families will grow more intense in the upcoming season. All we need now is a sigil for the Blossoms, a prominent family in Riverdale. For obvious reasons, their sigil will probably have a maple tree in it and colored in the family's signature red.

Prior airing, Camila Mendes, who plays Veronica Lodge, teased that episode 10 is a "really fun episode" that ties everything together.  "I feel like, in this one, everyone is involved in the same story and it's really a story of friendship and togetherness," the actress revealed.
