Did Shia LaBeouf Slam ‘Transformers’ Franchise?; ‘Love True’ Exec Talks Directors, Stardom

| Apr 17, 2015 11:55 PM EDT

Shia LaBeouf played Boyd "Bible" Swan in the 2014 war drama "Fury."

"Transformers" star Shia LaBeouf may have just slammed the franchise while at the Tribeca Film Festival to promote the documentary "Love True."

At that time, the actor was interviewed by The Hollywood Reporter where he spoke passionately about celebrities who believe in their own projects.

Somewhere along the conversation, LaBeouf slammed one character from "Transformers," Bumblebee.

"Bumblebee never sounds real, it's just a f*cking name. The name alone you can never make real, no matter how much you put into it, because on the other side you have a director who doesn't believe it either," he said.

Bumblebee is no less than Optimus Prime's most trustworthy lieutenant, which means that he is a key player in the success of the four film franchises.

LaBeouf also noted that working with certain directors who do believe so much in their work encourages the actor to feel the same work towards the project.

"When you work with certain directors who give over and do something that's presentational and you both believe it, then there is not f*cking around, and you really are in this alternate universe," he explained.

Meanwhile, while at the event, LaBeouf also talked about his struggles as an actor, Entertainment Weekly reported.

"The requirements to being a star or celebrity are namely, you must become an enslaved body. Just flesh - a commodity, and renounce all autonomous qualities in order to identify with the general law of obedience to the course of things," he said.
