"How To Get Away With Murder" Season 2 is becoming more interesting, as Cicely Tyson is reportedly reprising her role as mother to Viola Davis' Annalise Keating. They make a brilliant mother-daughter duo on television, dishing powerful lines that continues to resonate long after the episode premiere.
"Sometimes you've gotta do what you've gotta do, even if all you have is a long match and a very flammable hooch," Ophelia (Tyson) tells Annalise (Davis) in a Season 1 episode, letting her daughter know, finally, that she did not ignore the fact that she was raped by her uncle.
The nuances between Davis and Tyson are so strong that even if Tyson had not been around from the beginning, Ophelia's presence felt very organic in Annalise's life. It is no surprise that both Davis and Tyson earned nominations at the Critic's Choice Awards.
Viola Davis is nominated under the Best Actress category, while Cicely Tyson gets recognized under the Guest Performer in a Drama Series (HTGAWM, ABC) and Best Actress in a Movie or Mini-Series ("The Trip To Bountiful," Lifetime).
JustJared reported Tyson is going to be a part of "How To Get Away With Murder" Season 2. The two were recently seen together with HTGAWM creator Peter Nowalk at a Los Angeles Times Envelope Screening.
Annalise (born Ana Mae, as Ophelia revealed) has only recently learned that her mother is completely on her side. This changes the dynamics between them. It remains to be seen whether Ophelia would eventually get involved in the cases that Annalise is taking with her interns.
For many viewers, Annalise remains a suspect in the death of Rebecca Sutter. Others are arguing that as tough Annalise is on the outside, she could not a murderer. Either way, HTGAWM viewers expect to learn the identity of Rebecca's killer before the end of Season 2.
