Despite the disappointment, Zhang kept mum about the situation. The Chinese singer only posted some photos and a thank-you note on her Weibo microblog.

Chinese pop singer Jane Zhang and American hip-hop icon Big Sean will do a collaboration for the promotional theme song of the science-fiction film “Terminator Genisys,” entitled “Fighting Shadows.” The news was announced by Paramount Pictures on Monday.

The film is the latest installment of the film franchise "Terminator," which was first helmed by the critically acclaimed Canadian director James Cameron.

"Terminator Genisys" will be directed by Alan Taylor and will serve both as a reboot and a sequel to the series featuring Arnold Schwarzenegger. The Hollywood A-lister will also reprise his role for the franchise's fifth installment.

China's Zhang said that it is an honor to partake in the musical side of the "Terminator Genisys" production. Meanwhile, Big Sean also expressed his delight and enthusiasm to participate in the film and collaborate with Zhang,

"Fighting Shadows" will be released by Sony Music Entertainment in Asia, while Def Jam Recordings will handle the release for the rest of the globe.

The song will be available on June 30 via iTunes, a day before the film debut.

James Cameron, touted as the father of the "Terminator" franchise, has seen the recent installment and was impressed, saying that it "reinvigorates" the series. The director posted in an online video that "Terminator Genisys" is "respectful of the first two films," which he both directed.

The "Terminator" franchise is centered on the battle for survival between the world-spanning synthetic intelligence and the almost-extinct human race. "The Terminator" was first released in 1984.

Its next three installments--namely, "Terminator 2: Judgment Day," "Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines," and "Terminator Salvation"--were released in 1991, 2003 and 2009, respectively.
