Lenovo is planning to rebuild its ThinkPad line after the design of the ThinkPad series from the 90s, but the company assures that it will have the top-of-the-line specs on par with the modern standard in a slimmer package.
Ten years ago, the world's largest computer vendor acquired the ThinkPad series brand from IBM and had improved it over the years. The design would take the users back in the 90s, looking retro and contain original design details complete with the iconic multi-colored ThinkPad logo, Geeky Gadgets reported.
Lenovo's vice president of design David Hill added that aside from its classic look, it will have a dedicated volume controls, rubberized paint, opened screws, a load of status LEDs, blue enter key plus ThinkLight lights, a 16:10 aspect ratio display, and the seven row keyboard.
The T92 version is in a 180-degree extension, a common ThinkPad feature. Most of the ThinkPad series are powered by Intel Core fifth-generation processors, which raise the performance to 2.5 times better. The Chinese tech giant wants its fans to see the ThinkPad as a design classic just like the Converse All Stars. Hill said that redesigning the ThinkPad is inspired by companies like Fiat's 500, Dodge's Challenger, Ford's Mustang, and the Mini Cooper that made their line-up classier with the latest technology, according to iFreePress.
Hill posted the mockup photos of ThinkPad on Lenovo's blog, and over 700 readers left positive comments about the classic look of the laptop except for its kitsch multi colored logo. Lenovo's plan means requiring significant sales volumes so it can justify the expenses it needed.
