Surveys Report 70 Percent of Smartphone Users Unhappy with Pre-Installed Apps

Two surveys show that more than 70 percent of smartphone users consider the pre-installed apps on their mobile phones as a violation of their consumer rights.

It appeared that 96.2 percent of the respondents found many apps that cannot be removed on their phones, according to a survey by China News Service (CNS).

Only 3.8 percent of the respondents did not have this issue when purchasing new phones.

Another survey conducted by market research firm Data 100 showed that 75 percent of survey participants answered that they felt they did not have a choice when pre-installed applications on their smartphones are concerned.

The CNS survey revealed that as much as 98.7 percent thought that pre-installed apps violate their basic consumer right to make their own decisions, while 85.7 percent of those who took the Data 100 survey expressed the same sentiments.

The Consumer Committee of Shenzhen stated that it would file lawsuits, as a public interest litigation, against smartphone companies who continue to put un-removable apps in their mobile phones.

The majority of the survey takers, including the 85.7 percent in the CNS survey and the 69.5 percent in the Data 100 survey, support this plan.

Samsung smartphones top the list of both surveys for having built-in apps that cannot be uninstalled.

The Data Center of China Internet says that as much as 86 percent of phone owners at least try to remove these pre-installed apps from their phones, and that 33 percent found these apps necessary but they never use them despite their availability.
