Microsoft Lumia 950, Lumia 950 XL Rumors Surface; Lumia 940/940 XL Axed?

Fresh rumors suggest that the forthcoming flagships from Microsoft will not launch as Lumia 940 and Lumia 940 XL, but they will be unveiled as the Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL.

The last flagship iteration from Microsoft was the Lumia 930 that came out last year. Since the end of 2014, speculations indicated that it will be releasing the Lumia 940 and the Lumia 940 XL flagship smartphones in this year. However, Microsoft is now rumored to launch the Lumia 950 and the Lumia 950 XL flagships by skipping 940/940 XL models, Phone Arena reported citing a Chinese tech blog.

The Microsoft Lumia 950 will be coming with 5.2-inch display with Full HD resolution support. It will produce a pixel density of 424 ppi. This handset will be powered by Snapdragon 808 SoC that features a hexa-core processor and Adreno 418 graphics. The SoC will be accompanied by 3 GB of RAM.

The device will come with inbuilt storage of 32 GB. It will also support expandable storage. The 20 MP PureView technology powered rear camera will be enabled with a triple LED flash for shooting stunning photos in dim lighting conditions. The front-facing camera of the Lumia 950 will be of 5 MP.

The Microsoft Lumia 950 XL will be a phablet device as it will sport a 5.7-inch display supporting Quad HD resolution and a pixel count of 515 ppi. Under its hood it will house a Snapdragon 810 chipset featuring a 64-bit octa-core chip and Adreno 430 graphics. It will be supported by 3 GB of RAM.

The native storage of the Lumia 950 XL will be of 32 GB. It will carry support for expandable storage. It will also feature triple LED flash enabled 20 MP PureView camera on its rear and a 5 MP front-facing selfie shooter.

The Microsoft Lumia 950 and the Lumia 950 XL are expected to release in the coming fall. Both the devices will come preloaded with Windows 10 Mobile OS and support continuum through an accessory, WM Power User reported.
