| Jul 22, 2015 03:29 AM EDT

Dell's acquisition of EMC is hailed as the biggest tech acquisition in history.

Dell recentlyhas  launched a new addition to the company's family of Latitude devices, a Windows-powered tablet dubbed Latitude 12 Rugged designed to survive some of the most extreme conditions.

Dell has yet to confirm the official price of the Latitude 12 Rugged Tablet but according to Tech Radar, it will fetch a price of around $1,600 in the United States.

According to NDTV, the new rugged tablet from Dell passed the MIL-STD-810G standard which means it passed Military grade stress and environmental conditions. The device also passed the IP65 rating which means that it is dust and water resistant. Finally, the tablet was able to withstand a drop-test from a height of 180cm.

The Dell Latitude 12 Rugged Tablet runs on Windows 8.1 and instead of using a more power Core i7, i5 or i3 processor, the company opted for the more energy efficient processor and choose the Intel Core M processor. This is the same processor found on the Dell Venue 11 Pro 7000 Series. The processor, although not that powerful, delivers a balanced performance to battery ratio.

The tablet has an 11.6-inch display with 1366 x 768 resolution. The screen has been specially engineered for it to be readable even under direct sunlight and can is resistant to mud, dirt, sand, and dust. It also boasts a 512GB solid-state drive and a removable battery that can last up to 12-hour on a single charge. It has 8GB of RAM and unfortunately it does not come with an integrated camera.

Dell said in a statement that the Dell Latitude 12 Rugged Tablet will be available in the United States before the end of July. The company added that it will be released first on its online retail store.
