Popular American hip hop group The Black Eyed Peas (TBEP) celebrated their 20th anniversary with the release of their latest music video last week in Apple Music and it was titled "Yesterday." The release of "Yesterday" is the group's way to reunite since making their debut in 1995, but it appears that the video was published without their lead singer, Fergie.
The brand new music video of the popular American hip-hop group, which can be viewed in the page of Just Jared, was released last week and the public noticed that Fergie did not appear even for a second. Rumors are now circulating that the group will now move on with their careers without their lead singer.
However, one of the members of the group, rapper Will.i.am, cleared the air and told Reuters in an interview that they are "still one big family." It can be remembered that the group formed The Black Eyed Peas in 1995 with only 3 rappers: Will.i.am, Apl.de.ap and Taboo.
Thus, the release of the "Yesterday" music video is the trio's way to salute their "ancestors" in the hip hop industry like those featured in the clip such as Beastie Boys' "Paul Revere," Wu-Tang's "Killa Bees," N.W.A.'s "Straight outta Compton," ODB's "Shimmy Shimmy Ya," and Onyx's "Slam."
In his radio interview with Zane Lowe's Beat 1 show, Will.i.am said they are "paying homage" to the groups who inspired TBEP in creating their music or their so-called "forefathers."
Although Fergie is nowhere to be found in "Yesterday," Will.i.am clarified that the hip hop group is currently recording their lead singer's solo album and he even praised the progress so far. According to Food World News, the rapper told the reporters that Fergie is with the group last week and they are going back to the studio this coming week to complete her solo project.
Although, Will.i.am also released his solo record, "#willpower," in 2013, The Black Eyed Peas was not able to launch a follow-up album for five years.
The fans do not need to wait for so long since the much-awaited release of the next Black Eyed Peas studio album was scheduled later this year. Their last album, "The Beginning," was their sixth and it was released in 2010. They became known worldwide because of their hits like "I Gotta Feeling" and "Where is the Love?"
The hip hop group is currently being managed by Scooter Braun, who is handling prominent artists like Ariana Grande and Justin Bieber.
