Microsoft Lumia 950, Lumia 950 XL Specs: Continuum Support, Iris Scanner, Surface Pen, Smart Cover

The full specifications of the Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL smartphones have surfaced, including Microsoft Continuum, iris scanner, Surface Pen stylus, smart cover and more.

Previous rumors stated that the Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL will both sport metal chassis. However, several sources confirm that both the flagships will come with polycarbonate chassis in color options like black and white, Windows Central reported. The thickness of both the devices will be 7 to 8 mm.

The Lumia 950 and the Lumia 950 XL are the purported names of the flagships. Their accurate names will be revealed in September, Phone Arena reported. The Redmond giant will be organizing a launching event at the IFA 2015 that will held from Sept. 4 to 9 at Berlin, Germany. Speculation indicate that it will be announcing both the flagships during the event and their sales are expected to start from October or November.

Basic Hardware

A 5.2 inches OLED display will be available on the Lumia 950 (Talkman) handset. It will be producing Quad HD resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels. The Snapdragon 808 chipset with its six cores CPU will drive the handset along with a replaceable battery of 3,000 mAh.

The Lumia 950 XL (Cityman) will be a phablet device featuring a 5.7 inches OLED screen with Quad HD resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels. It will be housing a Snapdragon 810 SoC and replaceable battery of 3,300 mAh.

The remaining specifications of both handsets are 3 GB of RAM, 32 GB of inbuilt storage, microSD expansion slot, 20 MP PureView rear camera (Lumia 950 XL will carry triple LED flash), 5 MP front-facing camera, Qi wireless charging, and USB Type-C connector and iris scanner.

Microsoft Continuum

The Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL will support Windows 10's Continuum feature, through which the smartphone can be used like a desktop computer. For Continuum, users will be required to purchase an optional docking station device which is still under construction and codenamed as Munchkin.

By establishing connection between the Lumia 950 or 950 XL with the docking station, users will be able to hook up a PC display, mouse and keyboard The docking station will be costing around $100.

Iris Scanner

Since Windows 10 Mobile is enabled with a biometric security feature called Windows Hello, the upcoming Lumia flagships will be arriving with iris scanning security through which it will be possible to unlock the smartphone within a fraction of a second.

Surface Pen Stylus And Smart Cover

The Microsoft Lumia 950 XL will be pricier than the Lumia 950 as the former is expected to come with an optional Surface Pen stylus. The handset will support optional smart cover featuring a large circular portion for viewing calls and alerts.
