"Iron Man 3" lead star Robert Downey Jr. recently confirmed and then retracted that he will star as Tony Stark in the upcoming "Iron Man 4." Meanwhile, there are rumors that the official trailer for the film will be released next month.

During an interview with Ellen DeGeneres on "The Ellen Show," Downey Jr. was asked whether or not there will be a fourth installment to the "Iron Man" franchise. At that time, the actor told DeGeneres that there will be one for sure. However, immediately after, he retracted his confirmation.

Meanwhile, after Downey Jr's controversy, it was recently confirmed that "Iron Man 4" will push through. "Iron Man 3" director Shane Black also confirmed that Downey Jr. will reprise his role, contrary to reports that actor Ty Simpkins will become the new Tony or Iron Man, according to Cinema Blend.

In other news, Downey Jr. previously spoke with Empire Magazine about "Iron Man 4" and the upcoming "Captain America: Civil War." According to him, the latter will focus on Steve's story and not so much on Tony. He added that actor Chris Evans, who plays the role of Captain America, has been very excited to tell more of his story in the upcoming installment.

Talking about Tony, Downey Jr. said that some clues about the character's future were already revealed in "Avengers: Age of Ultron." These clues will reportedly be part of "Iron Man 4."

"Iron Man 4" is slated for release in the United States sometime in 2019. "Captain America: Civil War," meanwhile, will reportedly be released on May 6, 2016. Watch Downey Jr.'s interview on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" here:
