Following the success of “Wayward Pines” season 1, the showrunners and network executives were reportedly planning to renew the series. Producer M. Night Shyamalan hinted that season 2 will focus on the stories of the survivors and Ben Burke’s (Charlie Tahan) revolution against the First Generation.

Fox may have recently announced that there would not be a "Wayward Pines" season 2 but given the massive success of the season finale, which drew almost 4 million viewers, the network executives were reportedly thinking their decision over.

Speaking to Deadline, Shyamalan said that he, together with the cast members, were surprised and humbled with the support they received from fans. He revealed that he recently spoke to series author Blake Crouch to talk about the possibility of filming a second season. He hinted that they both have an idea on how they will take the series forward.

The producer admitted that they are both excited with the prospect of a season 2, given that there are still a lot of stories to tell. He, however, shared he made a pact with Crouch that they will only do another season if they can commit to keeping the story's integrity.

Meanwhile, in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, showrunner Chad Hodge shared that they decided against changing anything from the novel just to make room for a season 2. He added that they have always known how the series will end from the beginning.

When asked about the fate of the survivors, Hodge held that what will happen next is up to the viewers' imagination. He said that they designed the season finale to leave fans questions and make them think.
