Apple's supposed plans for a self-piloting vehicle becomes strengthened by the company's attempt to secure a testing ground for the alleged vehicle.
Documents intercepted by the Guardian reveals that Frank Fearon, an engineer at Apple, has been in contact with GoMentum Station officials, since May of this year according to Bidness ETC.
"Project Titan", the codename of the autonomous car, seems to be underway as Apple has asked the high profile testing company, the convenience of time and the amenities of the facility.
Apple's new CEO has been conducting appointments with officials from car manufacturers and drafted numerous auto-engineers some of them coming from, A123 Systems and Tesla Motors, but little is still known about Apple's plans for autonomous vehicle.
The documents also state Apple has possibly tested the product by asking GoMentum for exhibitions on the testing grounds, with photographs and reports on types of ground being used.
GoMentum, an 850 hectare naval base turned testing facility with over 30 kilometers of cemented road, is fortified with army personnel and isolated from the public.
The testing facility is claimed to be the leading test facility for Autonomous Vehicles and Connected Vehicles (CV) applications.
Some Apple employees have been deployed in the facility and other prominent car makers, with Mercedez-Benz and Honda, have partnered up with GoMentum for their own self-driving cars, reported TheNextDigit.
The facility is handled by the CCTA (Contra Costa Transportation Authority), an authority which is tasked with the development of transportation technology in the States.
The facility boasts other road features for testing of vehicles in different terrain like, railway crossings, cattle grids and highway overpasses, which the car must pass.
Apple has yet to confirm details about the secretive product, with the release still set for 5 years later but is still subjected to change or removal.
