The Huawei Watch of the Chinese electronics giant supports Android, thus falling under the Google umbrella. A now-removed preorder page of Amazon's website mentioned the price points, color combos, and curiously the fact that the Huawei Watch is compatible with the iOS and Android platforms. This could imply that Google is working on a cross-platform app that would connect Android Wear devices to Apple iPhones.

Google has not officially released a cross-platform tool to connect Android smartwatches to iPhones. They only support Android mobile phones.

However, reports have revealed that an app to link Android Wear devices to Apple smartphones is a work in progress for the search engine giant. It could challenge Apple Watch's market share in the wearables industry.

The Apple smartwatch currently cannot be paired with an Android mobile device. In addition, IDC data revealed that Apple shipped out 3.6 million Apple Watch units in the second quarter of 2015, according to Tech News Today. Thus, the company's stringent control of its product's hardware and software seems to be effective.

If Android Wear could be compatible with iPhone phones, users of the devices might consider testing or even switching to cheaper smartwatches. That includes the Huawei Watch priced from $350 to $800.

In fact, Huawei's wrist wearable includes many features that resemble the Apple Watch. They include leather, stainless-steel, or gold-plated bands. However, the gold strap model's price is not sky-high like the top model of Apple Watch Edition .It has a $17,000 price tag.

Huawei's smart watch also features a 4-inch circle display with scratch-resistant sapphire glass, according to Top Tech News. The wearable device gets text and call alerts, can run 4,000 Android Wear apps, and includes over 40 watch faces and bands.

Google has not officially commented about a cross-platform app. Meanwhile, a Huawei spokesperson told Fortune that its smartwatch was not iOS-compatible.

It is not crystal clear if the Huawei Watch will function on Apple devices. However, such a situation could give Apple iPhone users the freedom to use Android Wear units or other non-iOS smartwatches, which would in turn impact Apple's market share.
